A Letter From Hutch Regarding His Retirement

RETIREMENT! Wow! It’s hard to believe the time is here for me…seems very weird and a little scary at times, but also VERY exciting. Some have said they think I’m too young to retire. But, for the past year or so, I’ve felt as though my thinking is possibly too old for the state of our industry.

I realize the current soft market will eventually pass, but the key word for me at this point is “eventually.” After significant consternation, I’ve simply decided that the potential benefits to gain when “eventually” arrives are not worth the added time and energy to be expended, or the further delay in pursuing other important interests in my life.

So, off I go in pursuit of those interests. But, not before recognizing how lucky I have been to have shared my insurance career with so many TERRIFIC people……more than I can possibly express here (or remember!). Hopefully, I’ve expressed to you all at some point how much I appreciate everything you’ve done to help make my insurance career a challenging, learning and rewarding experience for the past 33+ years. I also hope that my efforts and our interactions have been positive for you as well.

If you have a desire to contact me in my post-insurance mode, and I certainly hope some of you will, here’s contact info:

Euclid Managers announces the retirement of Mark Hutchins effective February 27, 2009.

Hutch is a founding member of the Euclid Managers Kansas City operation and currently serves as Vice President and underwriter for internet, tech, media, manufacturers and miscellaneous professional liability lines.

Prior to Euclid, Hutch held senior level positions at The Hartford and multiple units of Aon including Media/Professional Insurance, Financial and Professional Risk Solutions and Prairie State. He has been active in PLUS since its inception, serving as Vice President from 87-89, frequently speaking at the international conventions and participating on the curriculum review board for the RPLU designation. Most importantly, Hutch has made a lasting imprint on the professional liability insurance industry at large. Not only has he trained and/or hired a large number of underwriters in the Kansas City area, he also played a primary role in the development of some of the industry’s very first miscellaneous professional liability and internet liability policy forms.

We are pleased to congratulate Hutch on a remarkable insurance career and we thank him for his significant contribution to Euclid Managers
